Love this part:

The difference is between a bride who is unjustifiably preoccupied with herself—who she is, what she has done, what she is doing, and all that she proposes to do—and one who is justifiably and humbly preoccupied with the Groom—the inexplicable grandeur of Who He is and the inestimable magnitude of what He has done.

Thanks for the reminder.

This is along the same lines as our discussion. I'm feeling this more and more that we are not very skilled at balancing tradition and orthodoxy. I love the New Chosen People. I was reading it to mom the other night.

Excellent insight.

This comes in play when dealing with contextualization. A definition from 1938 might be helpful: “An indigenous church, young or old, in the East or in the West, is a church which, rooted in obedience to Christ, spontaneously uses forms of thought and modes of action natural and familiar in its own environment. Such a church arises in response to Christ’s own call. The younger churches will not be unmindful of the experiences and teachings which the older churches have recorded in their confessions and liturgy. But every younger church will seek further to bear witness to the same Gospel with new tongues.”

Thanks for this set! I've felt the burden this season (more than any before) that the meaning of Christmas has been swallowed by consumerism. I love this group of words for how they remind us of Christ's sacrifice and our corresponding responsibility to Him.

"Bearers or potential recipients of the glorious Gospel"--what a stark contrast from the normative, especially during Christmas time, and ESPECIALLY in working retail during Christmas time. I pray I would have this view of people rather than the former.
